Halloween should be a fun safe holiday. To keep it safe some precautions need to be taken to ensure a happy and safe Halloween is had by all.
1. Safe Costumes
Make sure your child’s costume is safe by ensuring they can see through their masks! Lots of kids stumble or bump into things when they wear masks with low visibility. Tell them to take it off when walking from door to door. Also, make sure you’re kids wear reflectors also if their costume is dark. This way drivers will see those Trick Or Treaters easily. 2. Go With Them or Mark Routes
The safest thing you can do is go with your children trick or treating. If they are old enough to go alone they might not want you around. Ask them what route they are taking and mark it down. Tell them to stick to it in case there are any problems. Always make your kids travel with friends and pick them up if they need a ride back home.
3. Hand Check the Candy
You’ve heard the horrible stories of people poisoning candies or putting razor blades in apples… Tell your kids not to eat anything until they get home and hand check all their treats for anything that looks tampered with and toss it.
4. Pumpkin Carving
Overlook your kids pumpkin carving and try and use safety carving tools available at your local Walmart. Kids love carving pumpkins. It’s a Halloween must. But make sure no one gets hurt right before the big day.
5. Pumpkin Lighting
Candles are widely used to light pumpkins but an alternative is using battery powered lights. This removes the risk of fire. If you use candles make sure your pumpkins aren’t next to anything flammable like leaves or hanging decorations. At the end of the night blow out the candle. Don’t leave it to burn out on it’s own.
