Studio 42 Hosts Starving Artists Halloween Ball October 30

On October 30, 2008, Studio 42 will host The Starving Artists Halloween Ball, a celebration of emerging artists, featuring the designation of the Starving Artist Award, a cash grant given to a New York City-based artist of exceptional merit. The evening will include a VIP pre-party, an acclaimed keynote speaker to be announced, entertainment by DJ Brian Pennington, Cello and Black Taxi, light fare, open bar, dancing, a raffle, gift bags, and an exhibition and silent auction of selected emerging artists and their works. This year’s Halloween-oriented entertainment will also feature aerial artists from the New York Circus Arts Academy and the event’s suggested dress code is All Hallow’s Eveningwear.

Studio 42 launched the Starving Artists Ball in 2002, as a fundraiser and a multi-disciplinary exhibition and celebration of emerging artists, to widespread acclaim. Proceeds from the Ball have benefited The Starving Artist Award, a cash grant of up to $7,500 that has been given the last two years to a New York City artist of exceptional merit. The Starving Artist Award Committee has included well-known artists such as Emma McLaughlin (co-author of national best-seller The Nanny Diaries) and Robert LuPone (Artistic Director of New York’s MCC Theater). Starving Artist Award-winners have included Julia Frodahl (2004), Claudia Alick (2005), and Luke Stoffel (2006).
